FAST APPROACHING – SOCIAL SECURITY SEMINAR: A seminar will be held at the union hall on Thursday, July 29th from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m. Your spouse is also welcome to attend this informational seminar. JoAnne Ashenden from the Social Security Administration will be covering many topics such as: social security cost of living adjustments, paydays, where does social security money come from, social security credits, how retirement age affects your benefit, who else can draw from your benefit, working while receiving the benefit, what you need to know when applying for benefits, survivor benefits, disability, medicare, social security and young Americans. Alicia McGovern from Edward Jones will also cover many topics and be available to answer questions.

37TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING IS FAST APPROACHING - REMINDER TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS: Our annual golf outing will be held on Saturday, July 31st, at Centerview Golf Club. MED GAS AND BACKFLOW CLASSES: To register for these classes please contact Retha at the training center (734) 424-3700. Depending on interest, these classes will be offered in the near future.
Medical Gas and Welding Continuities: Members who are certified in medical gas and welding are reminded that continuities must be submitted every six (6) months. Do not let your continuity lapse! Effective September 1, 2009 all medical gas continuities will no longer be paid for by the Greater MI UA Local 190 training department. You will be responsible for all fees, pertaining to your continuities. The appropriate fee is $33.00, which will be paid twice a year. A check should be made payable to NITC in the amount of $33.00. You may drop off your continuity form and your check to the training center. To check on your continuity please go to the UA web site at uanet.org. OSHA 30 CLASSES: The classes will be held for seven (7) weeks. At this time we are accepting names for a 4th class. Any members interested in registering for this OSHA 30 class, please contact the training center (734) 426-3700.
OSHA 10: This certification can be obtained on line. This certification will be a minimum requirement for future calls to the Cook Plant. Please contact Retha, at the training center for further information (734) 426-3700.
Medical Gas Installer: Any member needing to update their medical gas installer certification please contact the training center at (734) 426-3700. Please check your medical gas cards for expiration dates. You can log on to the N.I.T.C.’s website at www.nationalnitc.com

Laid Off: All members who get laid off, must submit a copy of their lay off slip from their employer to the union hall. It is very important that you contact your business agent and Karen at the union hall (734) 424-0962 ext. #12, to report the last day in which you worked. You will then be reported on the out of work list. This report is used to generate sub pay checks, if you are eligible.
It is recommended that any member who is currently laid off should contact the training department to upgrade their skills. Use this time to your advantage!
BACK TO WORK: All members must contact your business agent and Karen at the union hall (734) 424-0962 ext. #12, to report the date in which you went back to work. All building trades members are to contact Al Culbreath (734) 424-0962 ext. #13, if you have not been to the union hall to complete all proper paperwork needed for your employer.
Members Working Out of Town: Any members working out of town are advised to submit copies of check stubs to the Fringe Benefit Office. Please mail your information on a monthly basis, to the attention of Bernadette to Benefit Advisors, Inc.
Must Modules: Members are reminded to stay current with your MUST modules. Any member interested in completing their must modules, please register by contacting the training center at (734) 426-3700. Once registered the web site address is as follows: mustbsafe.com.
License: Due to constant changes in job qualifications, state and local codes, we as professional trades’ people need to keep improving our resumes. Protect your trade by educating yourself in all aspects of your profession. If you are a pipe fitter take a plumbing class. If you are a plumber take a welding class or HVAC class. Take advantage of classes offered through our training program.
